Fr. Joseph Nguyen Installed as Western Province Superior
Fr. Joe Nguyen takes the oath of Catholic faith
(ANS – San
Francisco – August 27, 2026) – On
August 24 in Bellflower, California, Fr. Joseph Thinh Nguyen was installed
during Mass as the new provincial of the Salesian Province of St. Andrew the
Apostle, based in San Francisco. Fr. Hugo Orozco, councilor for the
Interamerica Region, presided over the ceremony.

In his homily, Fr. Hugo
invited the new provincial to embody Salesian fatherhood by drawing inspiration
from Don Bosco, fostering a spirit of listening, synodality, and closeness to
the most disadvantaged young people. He noted that Fr. Nguyen, having served as
master of novices for 9 years, has a deep understanding of the Founder’s
paternal qualities. The homily concluded with a word of thanks to Fr. Melchior
Trinidad, the outgoing provincial after six years of service, and a prayer to
Mary Help of Christians, to whom Don Bosco always entrusted his works.
