Homily for Easter Tuesday

Homily for Tuesday, Octave of Easter

April 2, 2024
Acts 2: 36-41
Collect
Christian Brothers, St. Joseph’s Residence, N.R.

Statue of St. Peter

We prayed in the collect that God endow us with heavenly gifts.  In his Pentecost preaching, Peter identifies the 1st of those gifts, the forgiveness of our sins, and the 2d gift, the Holy Spirit.

Our sins would weigh on us as we considered God’s judgment.  In our Lord Jesus, he’s lifted great weight from our shoulders and our hearts and replaced it with the light yoke of fellowship with Jesus (Matt 11:29) and the practice of charity.  The gift of the Holy Spirit helps us live in charity with one another, “possessed of perfect freedom” (collect)—or at least tending in that direction as we strive to live as brothers of our Lord Jesus and of one another.
