Two Salesian Parishioners Killed in Ida Flooding
This message was posted on Sept. 4 on the webpage of St. John Bosco Parish in Port Chester, N.Y. There was also a lot of grief on the campus of Iona College.
KEN AND
FRAN BAILIE
My dear sisters and
brothers in Christ,
It is with a heavy
heart that I reach out to the parish community at this moment. Thursday
evening, we received news that long time catechist at OLM / St. John Bosco
Parish, Fran Bailie and her husband Ken, did not make it home Wednesday night
after teaching their regular computer science class at Iona College. Ken’s body
has been found, and as of my writing this message, Fran is still missing.
Police authorities are presuming that Fran has died.
Fran was a pillar of
the parish community for at least two decades as a member of the Altar Society,
serving as a lector and Eucharistic minister, as well as passing on the faith
in the catechetical program. Before going to teach her class Wednesday night,
she participated in our catechist meeting in preparation for the upcoming
school year. She prayed with us and shared her faith.
At this time, I ask you
to pray for the repose of the souls of Ken and Fran Bailie. Please pray for
their family and friends who both mourn and wait to hear the news of their
loved one. It is for us now to support one another and know that our hope is in
the Risen Lord, now and always.
Yours in Christ.
