Pakistan’s Don Bosco Center Celebrates 25 Years of Service and Hope

(ANS – Quetta, Pakistan – September 1, 2025)
 – The Don Bosco Training Center in Quetta has celebrated its silver jubilee, marking 25 years of transformative Salesian presence in Pakistan’s Baluchistan region. Founded in 2000 by the late Fr. Peter Zago, SDB, the mission has become a beacon of education, formation, and hope for young people and families in the region.

The jubilee festivities began with a solemn Mass, presided over by Cardinal Joseph Coutts, accompanied by Bishop Khalid Rehmat, OFM Cap., and concelebrated by Salesian confreres Fr. Samuel Ghouri, Fr. Barnard Alfred, and Fr. Noble Lal, alongside numerous priests, religious sisters, and lay faithful. The vibrant gathering was a true celebration of faith and thanksgiving.

In his homily, Cardinal Coutts praised the pioneering efforts of the Salesians in Quetta, urging the community to continue their mission with courage, inspired by the legacy of St. John Bosco, to bring hope and education to the most vulnerable.

The program traced the mission’s 25-year journey through milestones of growth, service, and resilience. A special highlight was the recognition of long-serving employees, whose dedication has been vital to the mission’s success. The celebrations concluded with a fraternal meal, reflecting the Salesian spirit of joy and family.

Adding to the occasion, on August 24, Fr. William Matthews, the regional councilor for East Asia-Oceania, arrived for his canonical visitation. During his 3-day stay, he met with the Salesian community and members of the Salesian Family, offering encouragement and reaffirming their unity with the global Salesian Congregation.

The silver jubilee was not just a celebration but a renewal of the Salesian mission in Pakistan. From the seed planted by Fr. Zago, the Don Bosco community continues to thrive, forming “good Christians and upright citizens” in the challenging context of Baluchistan.

Described as a moment of grace and gratitude, the jubilee highlighted God’s faithfulness and the relentless efforts of the Salesians and their collaborators in carrying forward Don Bosco’s dream in Quetta.

The celebration was described by many as a true moment of grace and gratitude, a testimony to God’s faithfulness and to the dedication of the Salesians and their collaborators in carrying forward Don Bosco’s dream in Quetta.
