Homily for Tuesday
of the 4th Week of Lent

In the Scripture readings our attention starts to shift toward the healing that Jesus offers us, particularly thru the sacraments. The prophet Ezekiel (47:1-9,12) is pointing us toward Baptism, the super-abundant, super-lifegiving water that flows from the temple who is Jesus Christ himself.
In Ezekiel's image, the water is so fresh, so abundant, so lifegiving that it even turns the Dead Sea into fresh water (47:8).
The effects of this water are complete when what it touches produces fruit--in the case of Baptism, fruits like the trees along the riverbanks that Ezekiel mentions: when those who've been washed and nurtured by Baptism bear the fruit of good works, of holy lives.
