Salesian Sisters Celebrate Professions
On Thursday, August 5, the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians (FMAs, Salesian Sisters of St. John Bosco) around the world made or renewed their religious professions, following their long tradition. It was on August 5, 1872, that the 1st sisters, under the leadership of St. Mary Domenica Mazzarello, made their vows before Don Bosco.
Thus 2 sisters made their first professions as members of the FMAs' Eastern U.S.-Canadian Province. They were Sr. Natasha Roig and Sr. Ann Weis, pictured in the center above (left and right, respectively). At their sides are (left) Sr. Joann Holloman, provincial, and Sr. Karen Dunn, mistress of novices.
As you can see, 7 priests and a deacon concelebrated the Mass of Religious Profession. Fr. Tim Zak, the SDB provincial, presided and preached (center, in chasuble).
You can also see that your humble blogger was one of those concelebrants and is in the photo. He asked Sr. Maria Colombo to use his iPhone to take the picture.
The rite took place at St. Anthony Church in Hawthorne, N.J., where the sisters staff the parochial school.
So did the Mass of Religious Profession for 4 sisters making their perpetual vows later in the day. Bp. Kevin Sweeney of Paterson presided at that Mass. These 4 sisters were Sr. Christina Ye-Mook Chong, Sr. Lillian Foxx, Sr. Hae-Jin Theresa Lim, and Sr. Myriam Meus.
