Images from Palabek
The Palabek refugee camp in Uganda is one of the largest such camps in the world. Salesian priests and brothers have been there almost since its beginning, providing pastoral care and educational opportunities. They are the only non-refugees allowed to live in the camp.
(ANS – Palabek, Uganda - April 29, 2021) - The Palabek refugee camp was officially established in April 2016 and currently
hosts more than 56,000 refugees and asylum seekers, mostly from South Sudan.
Here, Salesian missionaries welcome and support all these people, offer them
pastoral care and also run several schools, to ensure adequate education for
children and young people. Among these
photos – which portray moments of daily life in the camp – there are also
images relating to the Easter period, with the celebrations of Holy Week,
Easter Mass, and the Baptisms of several newborns.
