On June 30 the terms of Fr. Tom Dunne as provincial and four members of the provincial council ended, and on July 1 Fr. Steve Shafran began a six-year term as provincial with a partly new, partly old council: a new vice provincial, one new councilor, two re-appointed councilors, and one continuing councilor (whose term hadn't ended).

On July 3 there was a day-long meeting of the new and old councils, continuing a "handing-off" process that had begun months earlier. On July 5 the new council began a week of prayer and planning for the year ahead together at a location away from any SDB community, as the provincial and c0uncil have been doing for a good many years at the beginning of the summer.
