Mrs. Evelyn Clites was my piano teacher, and the person I most strongly credit for any success I have in life today.

My dad was also a builder: W. T. Jones. His little company was called "Blue Haven Homes." We lived in Oak Grove Estates, a subdivision he was working on at the time of his tragic death from a heart attack at age 51. I was 13 and a student at Horace Mann Jr. High, then. My younger brother was still at Yates and our older brother at Brandon High.

I remember Mrs. Studstill, Miss Moody, Mrs. Gunn, the principal, Mr. Zeno Stalnaker, Mr. Alvarez in the library, and my favorite 4th grade teacher: Mrs. Lastinger.

I found your wonderful narrative today when I was looking for references to Brandon as it was when I grew up there to incorporate partially as a model for a small town in a novel (my first) that I am working on.

Thanks, too, for the link to the Tampa Bay Online story. I remember Dick Stowers and his kindness to my family.

Dr. Grabel was our family doctor. I was a skinny kid who would much rather climb up a tree with a good book than eat. Dr. Grabel finally told my frustrated mother that if all I would eat were Saltine crackers with a glass of milk, (while reading a book), to let me eat all I would hold and leave me alone.

It was a delight to read your memoir of Brandon. It helped pry open some rusty old file drawers for me!

Note -- I am Elizabeth Jones Westmark, formerly Mary Elizabeth ("Beth") Jones and lived in Brandon from third grade through high school graduation in 1969.Bethhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06579979064302832829noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-25197311.post-57613868773413406932012-05-17T11:43:37.555-04:002012-05-17T11:43:37.555-04:00What a great history! I can remember how her big dog Deacon was always hanging around. She made the best cherry cokes for us!Conniehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03667481504650498976noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-25197311.post-69808093282857557752011-12-12T12:29:58.228-05:002011-12-12T12:29:58.228-05:00wow, thank you so much for the history....Blessing...wow, thank you so much for the history....BlessingsChris Turnerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17742310809459264560noreply@blogger.com
